A Piece of Glory under the Yellow Flag
My name is M Fatkhu
Arifin, I was a new student of unpopular senior high school. In the new day I had new uniform, new class, new style,
but some old friends. I’m already well known before I studied at that school
because I was the son of the principal of the school. Having that reputation, I
felt unsatisfied. I thought that having that reputation was only make me
bridled. I had to watch my attitudes, I had to be a rule model of others, and
the worst I cannot made my own rules. Actually I didn’t like to be restrained,
that was why I tried to freed myself.
I led a lot of ways to
make my own reputation. No matter it was bad
way, I just wanted to free. In the early year of my school career, I was a
naughty boy. I did many bad things at that time such skipping the school,
coming late, smoking in the canteen, fighting another students even the teachers.
Until one day, bad experience came over to me.
When I was there on the
day, in the beautiful morning I came to the school earlier. I
didn’t know why it could be. I joined the class and slept during the lesson.
When the break time had come, it was like a piece of gold for me and my
friends. I and some of my friends smoked in the canteen as usual. Actually I
already had a bad feeling about that day, but I thought everything is going to
be fine. Just a few minutes we enjoyed that freedom; suddenly the principal
raided us without any warning. “Who smoke in this area?!” the principal was
furious of knowing the fact. “Answer me!” he spoke louder than ever, but no one
dare enough to answer his question. Then he forced us to come to his office
“come to my office, now!” and especially to me he said “how dare you slap my
face!” while he slapped my face with a piece of paper. In his office, he
threatened to drop me out from the school because what I had done included of
the worst crime ever.
After that moment, no
one tried to do anything except obeyed the rules. The school days were seems very stressful. And I realized
that what I had done was the wrong way to reach my own reputation. But it
showed me what the students really wanted. Then it motivated me to do something
bigger. I remember that students had an organization which had stop moving for
three years old before I came. And I thought it could be a bridge to make
students exist with their aspiration. I decided to collect some of my friends
and invited them to make our organization rise again.
Day by day was passed
in hard way. It wasn’t easy to build up again.
Everyone felt doubt on my effort. But whole students were the reason for me to
keep moving. I said to everyone who obstructed my step “I think it doesn’t
meter who I was, the question is how far you can fulfill the students’
necessary? If we don’t start right now means we wait for our failed”.
Finally, all of those
efforts gave significant result.
The next year the number of new student always increase. They interested to
study in my school. We had so many students’ activity besides formal lesson. The
following years filled by many achievements done by the students. I felt so
proud that what I saw really comes true. I keep those memories as a piece of
glory under the yellow flag.
